podcast listening

Lately, we've been doing a little bit more podcast listening and little less TV watching around here. I'm not going to go into the discussion of TV being "good" or "bad", but for our family, we found that it was producing bad attitudes and wasted time, so we decided to take some time away from TV, especially for the boys.

In the replacement of TV in those early morning hours when we want to ease into the day without a lot of loud noises and wrestling, we have been listening to new and old episodes from the Adventures in Odyssey podcast. They have a bunch of free episodes that we play on our iPad or phone as we eat breakfast. If you haven't listened to Adventures in Odyssey with your kids yet, I would highly suggest downloading a few episodes and listening to them with your kids. (Some episodes are a little scary for our boys, so just keep in mind that you may need to skip a few episodes if you have younger ones).

Another one that we like to listen to as a family is The Skit Guys podcast. They are hilarious and clean. Gavin doesn't always understand what they are talking about, but he loves to listen to their jokes and banter. This is a great one for traveling, because it makes the time fly by!

For me, my favourite is the God Centered Mom podcast. Heather MacFayden is a mom with four boys. Her podcasts are full of encouragement and the feeling of "oh good. I'm not alone in this". She interviews other ladies that share their wisdom and past experiences in raising kids. I have gleaned a lot from listening to her podcasts.

One that Jesse and I have started listening to (without kids around) is, Serial by This American Life. It's a true story that unfolds throughout the whole season that follows characters and events. The host doesn't know what's happening until the next episode. This podcast is old - from last October (we are late to this podcast game), but if you like crime and mystery shows, this one is for you.

I am always interested in new podcasts! What are your favourites?
